The Tales of Squinka's creation are as numerous as it’s peoples. The crow-like Keneku spin the tale of how their pale god created the land from the shell of a great mollusk it fed upon. Those few who have spoken to the great dragons who once roamed have heard the tale of a slumbering goliath wyrm, whose shiftings cause the earthquakes that rattle the continent. Whatever be the truth, all the tales end the same, with Squinka’s creation.
To say Squinka was ever a peaceful land would be foolish, but no conflict has risen to the same senseless levels of destruction as to what the land’s inhabitants call the Old war. A brutal decade of unceasing slaughter, the Old war brought the continent to its knees in blood. The few that survived remember it only for its grueling campaigns, the causes of the war buried along with its countless victims.
Squinka is a wounded land, in some places a lush garden of fauna and flora, in others a grey wasteland dotted with the ruins of old cities and rusted weapons of war. New peoples and cultures now populate the land, picking up the pieces of civilization in a verdant wasteland. However this era of rebuilding is not without its own ordeals. Invaders from below sense the weakness of the surface and come to ravage it further. As civilization begins to rebuild, unnamable beasts stir in response to challenge the encroachments on their territories. And even to the most unattentive of travelers, the remains that lay about the land seem like they’re starting to vanish.
Squinka is the land our DnD campaign is based on. It is created by Michael and Charlotte.
